ROY L. PAINE

NORA SPRINGS - Roy L. Paine, 73, formerly of Nora Springs, died Tuesday (May 8, 2001) in Norco, La.

Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Norco, with burial being in St. John Memorial Cemetery in LaPlace, La.

He received his education in Nora Springs, graduating in 1944. He enlisted in the Navy, achieving the rank of Seaman First Class serving on the USS Fulton from July of 1945 to October of 1947. Another achievement was being inducted into the River City Softball Hall of Fame in 1987.

He worked many years at Deckers in Mason City before retiring.

He was an avid golfer in his younger years and enjoyed sports. He loved woodworking and made many pieces that were enjoyed by all.

Roy married Josephine Dufresne, of Norco, in February of 1995. He had lived in Norco since.

He is survived by his wife, Josie; his five daughters, Debbie Nehls and her husband, Dennis, of Denver, Iowa, Cindy Rasmus and her husband, Jerry, of Destrehan, La., Barb Mahnesmith and her husband, Loren, of Nora Springs, Julie Underriner and her husband, David, of St. Ansgar, and Susan Wilde and her husband, Scott, of Grafton; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four stepchildren and 11 stepgrandchildren, all of Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alma (Clough) Paine Sr.; four sisters, Mina, Doris, Florence and Effie; four brothers, Bert, Clarence (Punk), Paul and Bill; and his beloved dog, HyDee.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
