CHARLES CITY - D. Irene (Mrs. Earl) Kiess, 91, of 610 Sixth Ave. in Charles City, died Thursday morning (Jan. 18, 2001) at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

The funeral for Irene Kuhlemeier Kiess will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with Pastor Gale Richards officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hauser Funeral Home, with the family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday.

Delia Irene Webster Kuhlemeier Kiess was born Aug. 22, 1909, in Floyd County, the daughter of O.G. and Ellen "Nellie" (Hawkins) Webster. She graduated from Rockford High School and taught school in Cerro Gordo County and at Rockford.

On Dec. 4, 1937, she and Vernon E. Kuhlemeier were married at her home in Mitchell County. He died in 1966.

On Feb. 11, 1978, she and Earl Kiess were married at Colwell. He died in 1994.

Irene was a member of the Colwell United Church of Christ, the Women's Society of Christian Church, the Women's Fellowship, the Charles City Women's Club, "TLC" (for nursing homes), Floyd County Senior Volunteers, Senior Citizens and the Order of Eastern Star.

Living family members include three daughters, Joyce Wallace, of Mason City, Jean and her husband, Lee Moore, of Nora Springs, and Janet and her husband, Kirk Wolff, of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; a son, Keith Kuhlemeier, of Ellicott City, Md.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a stepson, Robert Keiss, of Algona; and a brother, Arnold Webster, of Cedar Falls.

Her parents, both husbands, a brother and a stepdaughter preceded her in death.
