CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Shirley R. Begemann, 74, of Charles City died Sunday, February 20, 2011, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Shirley Begemann will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 23, at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastors Dennis Niezwaag and David Werges will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and on Wednesday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Shirley Rose Albertson Begemann was born January 7, 1937, in Bonair, the daughter of Theodore and Irene (Brooks) Albertson. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1954. Shirley worked at Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo from 1954 to 1960.

On July 23, 1960, she was united in marriage to Harold Begemann at Waterloo. hey farmed south of Charles City until they retired and moved to Charles City in 1994.

Her interests included baking, bowling, doing puzzles, reading, golfing and going on two-mile walks. She always looked forward to hosting holiday dinners. Spending time with family was always important to Shirley and she looked forward to attending the sporting events that the grandchildren were in.

Living family members include her husband of 50 years, Harold Begemann of Charles City; two sons, Craig (Julie) Begemann and Denny (Kim) Begemann, both of Charles City; four grandchildren, Lindsey (Brian) Mullenbach, Lauren (Caleb Lundberg) Begemann and Alexandra and Ryan Begemann; a great-grandson, Carson Mullenbach; and a sister, Doris (Gene) Bard of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Wayne Smith; three brothers, Thomas, Kenneth and Edward Albertson; and a sister, Esther Albertson.
