DONALD D. DAVIS
NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Donald D. Davis, 94, of Nora Springs, died Thursday (Dec. 16, 1999) at the Nora Springs Care Center.
Private family services will be held. Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 Hawkeye, Nora Springs, is in charge of arrangements.
Donald was born August 10, 1905, in Garner, the son of Samuel and Doris (Heckmaster) Davis. The family moved to Nora Springs in 1910 and he graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1923. After graduation, he moved to Flint, Michigan where he worked at Fisher Auto Body until an eye injury forced him to leave. Donald then bought a house cleaning business in Flint before returning to the Nora Springs area to farm.
He was united in marriage to Margaret Tims in 1939 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. He retired in 1972 after many years on the farm. He had two passions in life, dancing and playing checkers. He was a two-time Iowa State Champion at checkers in his early years.
Survivors include his son, Dean Davis and his wife, Connie, of Nora Springs; two daughters, Marilyn Davis of Mason City and Marlys Simmons and her husband, Frank, of Winthrop, Wash.; two granddaughters, Brenda Jerich of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Cheryl Oeltjenbruns of Davien, Ill.; two grandsons, Dustin and Darren Davis, both of Ames; and two great-grandchildren, Luke and Austin Jerich.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; one brother, Morton; and two sisters, Floy and Fern.
