CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Ardith (Mrs. Robert) Kelly, 76, a resident of 1115 Hildreth St., Charles City, died Sunday afternoon (Nov. 19, 2000) at a Rochester, Minn., hospital.

Funeral services for Ardith Kelly will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City, with the Rev. Diane Mitchell, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the church.

Ardith Juanita Friedow Kelly was born Aug. 27, 1924, in rural Kanawha, the daughter of Floyd Frank and Edna Dorothea (Koch) Friedow. She graduated from Kanawha High School, received a two year teaching certificate from Upper Iowa University at Fayette, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado and a Master of Arts in Elementary Administration from the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls.

She taught at Titonka from 1943 to 1944, at Kanawha from 1944 to 1948, then at Charles City at McKinley Grade School from 1948 to 1950, and from 1952 to 1957.

On June 18, 1955, she and Robert F. Kelly were married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mason City. She then taught from 1967 to 1977 at Floyd Elementary, was principal at Washington Elementary from 1977 to 1985, and then taught at Washington Elementary from 1985 to 1990.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City, sang in the choir for many years, was a member of the morning circle and served on various church committees. She was a member of the Iowa State Education Association, the National Education Association and a member of the Big 4 Retired School Personnel.

Living family members include two daughters and their husbands, Juanita and Paul Hughes and Ramona and Robert Cagley, all of Charles City; four sons and their wives, Shawn and Carol Kelly and Patrick Kelly, all of Charles City, Brian and Denise Kelly, of Ottumwa and Barry and Rachael Kelly, of Nora Springs; 11 grandchildren; and one brother, Verlyn Friedow, of Kanawha.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1998; and two brothers.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial fund.
