Harriet Holzer, 86, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 23, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Harriet Holzer will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, south of Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday where there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 6 p.m.

Harriet Fae Hundley Holzer was born on December 19, 1924 at New Hartford, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Cora (Schilling) Hundley. She received her education at Charles City Community School. On December 15, 1944, she was united in marriage to Ray Eikenberry. Ray died on May 3, 1984.

Harriet married Gilbert Holzer on January 14, 1985. Gilbert died on October 29, 1994. Over the years she worked in various positions including at Ray’s Pizza and selling Avon products. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and V.F.W. Auxiliary where she had held various offices including president for two years. Harriet loved cats, the color purple and playing bingo.

Living family members include three children, Betty (Cliff) Abrams of Mesa, Arizona, Beverly Luttrell of Rockford, and Bradley (Katherine) Eikenberry of Mesa, Arizona; six step children, Alvin (Kathy) Holzer of Denton, Texas, Kenny Holzer, Ray (Karen) Holzer and Ron Holzer all of Charles City, Jean (Dick) Bensend of Osage, and Judy (Rod) Barker of Waverly; 32 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Alberta Layman; and a daughter-in-law, Sandy Dolhman.

The family would like to thank all her Bingo buddies for their support as well as for her special angel, Sharon Streich.
