Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, November 27 at the United Methodist Church, Rudd, Iowa, for Paul J. Schweizer, age 64, of rural Rudd, who died Thursday, November 23, 1989 at his home of natural causes. Rev. Melvin Reth will officiate and burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City, Iowa where military rites will be conducted by the Rudd AmVets. Hogan-Bremer-Sheckler Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Paul was born January 23, 1925 in rural Rudd, Iowa to William and Dottie (Krambeer) Schweizer. He graduated from Rudd High School in 1942 and attended a technical school in Minneapolis, Minnesota for metal working. He served in the Army during World War II. On October 6, 1947 he married Frances O'Rourke in Waterloo, Iowa.

Mr. Schweizer farmed for 40 years. He also worked for Hellwood Trailers in Rudd from 1969 to 1973 and did miscellaneous odd jobs for area neighbors such as carpentry, welding, and electrical work.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rudd, and the Rudd AmVets. He had been a member of the Floyd County Fair board for seven years and a member of the Floyd County Extension Council for six years. He also was a former assistant Scoutmaster in Rudd.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son,Kenneth, one granddaughter,Kristin, and one sister, Lois Huxsol.

Survivors include his wife, Frances, rural Rudd; one daughter, Jackie (Mrs. Craig Schmitt, Floyd, Iowa; 3 sons, Michael J. Schweizer, Mason City, Iowa, Randall E. Schweizer, Marble Rock, Iowa, and Stanley D. Schweizer, Rudd, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; one brother Francis Schweizer, Rockford, Iowa, and cousin/sister, Gertrude Bell, (Mrs. Howard Smith) who was raised by William and Dottie Krambeer as their daughter when her parents died when she was very young.
