KRAMBEER, ELLIS, MERFIELD, SCHWEIZER, KENSRUE, BELL

Donald Ellis Krambeer, age 78, a former Marble Rock, Iowa mayor and businessman, died Wednesday, January 27, 1988 at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, Iowa after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Roseville, Iowa with the Rev. Leo Riley officiating. Burial will be in the St.Mary's Cemetery, Roseville, with military rites conducted by Stroud-Gates American Legion Post 387, Marble Rock, Iowa. Reid Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock handled the arrangements.

Donald was born September 26, 1909 in Luana, Iowa, Clayton County to William Frederick and Gertrude Rosalie (Ellis) Krambeer. He attended Luana Schools. He moved to Marble Rock in 1934.

Mr. Krambeer was employed by Barth Trucking Company, Marble Rock and later for West Trucking Company in Mason City, Iowa. He also worked for the Marble Rock Co-op Elevator for a short time.

He married Agatha Merfield on October 7, 1939 in Roseville. They did not have any children.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April 30, 1942 and served on the USS Kennebec and the USS Nightingale as chief petty officer. He was discharged October 29, 1945. Upon his discharge he opened the first Standard Station in Marble Rock. He later served as a Standard Oil agent and salesman from 1946 until 1972, when he retired.

He served on the Marble Rock City Council from 1956 to 1964 and was the mayor from 1967 to 1978. Mr. Krambeer was on the Floyd County Memorial Hospital Board from 1965 to 1985 and served as chairman for many years. He also served on the Floyd County Crime Commission and the Judicial Magistrate Commission until 1986. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he was a past chairman of the church council. He was a charter member of the Marble Rock Lions Club and a member of Stroud-Gates American Post #387 of Marble Rock.

During his years of public service he was instrumental in starting Little League baseball in Marble Rock. He also organized the Marble Rock Senior Citizens and established the sewer and garbage service in Marble Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Dottie Schweizer, Goldie Kensrue, and Lettie May Bell.

Survivors include his wife, Agatha, of Marble Rock, Iowa and one brother Roy Krambeer of Mason City, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
