Funeral Home For
Mrs. John Curphey

Succumbs Saturday
Following Illness
Of Six Weeks

Funeral services were held at the Sheckler funeral home here at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon for Mrs. John Curphey, 88, who died Saturday, September 16, (1944) at 2:05 a.m., following a six weeks' illness. Stanley Haynes, pastor of the Church of Christ had charge of the rites. Burial was in Rock Grove cenetery.

Rue Bitterman, Fred Bitterman, Lee Heinselman and Leonard Heinselman were the casket bearers.
Mrs. Darrell Morphew and Mrs. Harry Olson sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "Going Down the Valley." They were accompanied by Mrs. Kenneth Shanks, as pianist. Floral arrangements were made by the Misses Mary and Edna Roberts.

Mrs. Curphey, nee Lora Etta Henry, was born May 24, 1856, at Rock Grove, the rural area just south of Nora Springs. She was the daughter of John and Julia Ann Henry.

She was married on November 25, 1873, to E. Fletcher Forbes. Seven children were born to the couple, four of whom preceded their mother in death. Mr. Forbes died in 1907.

She was married to John E. Curphey of Nora Springs in 1927. Mr. Curphey died in the spring of 1944.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Maude Bitterman, Mrs. H. N. (Kate) Heinselman of Charles City, and Mrs. E.C. (Grace) Hofler of Nora Springs. There are also 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
