Sudden Death Of
N. A. Schuver, 55
Shocks Community

Services Held Thursday
In Rockford Church;
2 Sons In Service

This community was stunned early Monday evening when the news came that N.A. "Nick" Schuver had died in the Mercy hospital in Mason City. His illness was of a very brief duration, so much so that only his immediate family realized the gravity of his condition. He had been at his work as usual in the Nora Springs Mill on Saturday and was up and around the house Sunday, but Sunday evening his discomfort increased until at 3 o'clock Monday morning, he was taken to the hospital. He lost consciousness about 8 o'clock and death occured that afternoon at 5:30.

Holding an anviable place in the esteem and in the hearts of the residents of Nora Springs and the surrounding rural area, he numbered his friends by his acquaintances. The most frequently heard comment Tuesday morning as the news was discussed by his heavy-hearted friends was "There is no one person in the entire community who would be missed as much as Nick will be."

Coming to Nora Springs in October, 1935, from Bremer county he soon won the friendship and respect of all those with whom he came into contact, his fellow-townsmen having evidenced their confidence in his intergrity and sound judgment by electing him to the town council. At the time of his death he was serving for his seventh year as a member of that body, and was acting on the finance, park and various other special committes.

Born in Alsaace Lorraine, Germany, on May 9, 1889, he was a son of John and Magdelena Schuver. He came to the United States in October of 1907, and settled at Granville, Iowa. On Jan. 18, 1916, he married Rose M. Jungers at Hospers. They farmed at Granville and later moved to Hospers, where he operated the Farmers' grain elevator. From Hospers the family moved to Bremer, Iowa, where he was similarly occupied. He purchased the Nora Springs Mill nine years ago and operated it until the time of his death. He has been assisted by his two sons, Harold and Norbert, until both boys entered the service of their country, and since then he had carried on the burden of the work alone.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Evelyn, at home, two sons, Harold of Camp Crowder, Mo., and Norbert, whose whereabouts are not known; and three brothers, Joseph, Peter and Anthony, all of Granville. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John; and a sister Lena.

The funeral was held in the Holy Name Catholic church at Rockford, of which Mr. Schuver was an active member, faithful and regular in attendance and a generous contributor. The pastor, Father, R. S. Boher, read the requim mass at 9:30 Thursday morning. Burial was in Riverside cemetery at Rockford.
