NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Shirley Irene Sandy, 74, formerly of Mason City passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at the Sanford Sheldon Health Care Center in Sheldon.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, with the Rev. Glen Bandell officiating. Burial will be held in Spring Grove Cemetery, rural Nora Springs. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shirley I. Sandy memorial fund.

Shirley Irene Wilson was born on October 1, 1936, in Nora Springs. She was the oldest child born to George and Ruby (Gallup) Wilson. She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1954. Following high school she attended and graduated from Hamilton Business College.

She was a longtime employee of the Burchinal Co-op in Burchinal.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Jocee Michelle Kelly, Waterloo, Joni Marie (John) Bachman, Boone, and Jay Michael (Dar) Sandy of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Tony (Ehrin) Kelly, Lindsey Kelly and Ty Hamiel, Ben Bachman, Bethany Bachman, Justin Sandy, Jason (Karley) Sandy, Jay Sandy Jr. and Dillon Hunwardsen; four great-grandchildren, Max and Emma Kelly, Colten Angerman and one great-grandchild to arrive later this year; a sister, Margery Leake, Macomb, Illinois; and three nieces and one nephew and their families.
