Officer, Dies

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Capt. Harry J. Garman, 46, died Tuesday at his home at Arlington, Texas, following several months illness with cancer. He had undergone surgery about the first of January, and several times since then.

A pilot with American Air Lines both before and since serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a lieutenant commander, Capt. Garman was reared in Nora Springs and was graduated from the local high school. He was a son of the late Dr. and Mrs. C. E. Garman. His father died Oct. 27, 1942, and his mother Sept. 24, 1952. A brother, Edgar, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife,Loma; two sons, Harry J., 17, and Charles Edgar,15; and one sister, Mrs. Raymond (Betty) Ashley of Fort Knox, Ky.

The last rites had not been definitely arranged but were to be held Friday or Saturday. Burial in Arlington.

Capt. Garman, who would have been 47 next month, was a nephew of F.R. Sheckler of Nora Springs.
