Gerald A. “Jerry” Daley, 87, of Charles City, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, December 14, 2010, at the 9th St. Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A celebration of life service for Gerald “Jerry” Daley will be held from 12:00 noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, December 19, 2010, at the Elks Lodge in Charles City. Per Jerry’s request his body was donated to the University of Iowa Hospitals for medical research.

Gerald Anthony Daley was born February 23, 1923, in Cresco, the son of John D. and Jennie (McCabe) Daley. He graduated from the Cresco High School, University of Iowa and CLU. During World War II, Jerry served in England, France, the Battle of the Bulge and Germany as a radio operator in the United States 3rd Army.

On October 11, 1947, he was united in marriage to Marie Coobs. For 37 years, Jerry was employed as agency manager for Farm Bureau Insurance. He was a member of the Elks Club, March of Dimes, Charles City Library Board, Charles City Park Board and Charles City Museum. He actively volunteered for Hospice and Charles City Little League where he served as president.

His interests included sports, fishing, the outdoors, birds and being on the river. The most important thing in Jerry’s life was his wife and family and he loved to spend time with them.

Living family members include his wife, Marie Daley of Charles City; three children, Patrick (Diane) Daley of Riverside, Calif., Michelle (Dick VanTreijen) Johnson of Irvine, Calif. and Neal (Nancy) Daley of Waukon; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Charlene Conrad of Waterloo; sister-in-law, Katy Daley of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Paul, Eugene and Francis Daley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Charles City Museum, Charles City Library, Hospice, Elks Club or charity of choice.
