Home In Nora Springs

The Rev. Amedee Fredette, pastor of St. Luke's church in Nora Springs, officiated at rites in the church at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, January 2, [1954], for Mrs. John C. Hartwig, 92, a resident of this community for 68 years, who died at her home here Wednesday afternoon, December 30, [1953] as a result of infirmities attendant upon her age.

A prayer service was conducted by the Rev. W. G. Weber of Zion Lutheran church of Rockford at 1:30 at the funeral home.

Interment was in Park cemetery. Pall bearers were George Mogk, Chris Hansen, James Shoger, Lloyd Gashel, Clarence Boeck and Fred Thiele. The Sheckler funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Henry Buckman sang "O Take My Hand, Dear Father" and "The Home of the Soul". She was accompanied by Mrs. K. S. Shanks. Members of the flower committee were Mrs. James Shoger, Mrs. Leonard Wrench and Mrs. Frank Munger.

Mrs. Hartwig, nee Ida Frese, was born at Merrimac, Wisconsin, on January 28, 1861, one of a family of five children of Mr. and Mrs. George Frese.

She was married to John C. Hartwig of Merrimac, on October 26, 1886; the marriage being performed by the Rev. Paul Liedke, Lutheran pastor of Leland. After their marriage the couple established their home on a farm five miles northeast of Nora Springs, where they lived for 35 years. After their retirement, they moved to Nora Springs.

Mrs. Hartwig was a life-long member of St. Luke's
Lutheran church in Nora Springs.

The survivors are four children: Herbert, Lola, John Jr. and Cora, all of Nora Springs; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one brother, George Frese, 94, also of Nora Springs.

Her husband died 1941.
