BURIAL AT ROCKFORD, IOWA

MASON CITY, IOWA - Sarah Alice Winters, 79, of 516 20th St. S.E., Mason City, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center- North Iowa.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St. S.E., Mason City. Officiating will be the Rev. Jack Vanden Heuvel of Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church, Mason City. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. today and again one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Sarah Alice Winters Memorial Fund.

Sarah Alice was born in DeKalb County, Georgia, on January 9, 1931, the daughter of Henry Anderson and Curtis Maybelle (Lee) Gunter. She attended school in Georgia, then married Marvin J. Winters, who was stationed in the military on Dec. 1, 1948, at Jonesboro, Ga. They lived in Georgia for about a year then moved to Mason City, where five sons were born. In 1961 they moved to Rockford where she and Marvin finished raising the boys.

In 1989 they moved back to Mason City. While in Rockford she frequented the Rockford United Methodist Church, and, after moving to Mason City has been familiar with Rolling Acres Church through her son, Dwight.

One of Alice's favorite things to do was travel to Georgia and California to visit with her family.

Her longest employment was with Iowa Kemper Insurance Company working in reception. She also worked at Kalt Variety store in Rockford, and as a waitress at the old Holiday Inn.

Those surviving Sarah include her four sons and wives, Larry and Donna Winters, Godfrey, Ill., Dwight "Bryan" and Karen Winters, Mason City, Kirk and Carol Winters, Rockford, and Rory and Deb Winters, Mason City; 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Also included are two sisters, Lucille Anderson and Harriett Bosse; and two brothers, Jim and Donald Gunter along with many nieces and nephews.

Marvin, her husband, who died July 6, 2008 and their son, Robert "Bob," on December 9, 2007, along with her parents and one brother, Harry Gunter, preceded her in death.
