Betty Jean Lindhorst was born March 1, 1923, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Martin and Ruth (Tallmadge) Holte. During her early years, she lived with her mother and step-father, Leland Wildin, near Algona, Iowa, and Marshall, Minnesota. Betty graduated from high school in Marshall, Minnesota. Betty and Kenny moved their family to Ionia, Iowa, in 1954 where they had purchased a farm. They farmed there until Kenny’s retirement in 1984. They owned a cabin on a lake near Faribault, Minnesota for many years and enjoyed spending time there. In 1994, they moved to a house in Charles City. Kenny passed away in July of 2000. In December 2006, Betty moved to Riverside Assisted Living in Charles City and in October 2010, she moved to the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Homes where she lived at the time of her death.
Betty enjoyed fishing and crocheting as she made hundreds of crocheted afghans over the years. She was a long time member of the United Church of Christ in Ionia.
She is survived by her daughters, Sherry and Leon Wait of Nashua; Joleen Lindhorst of Charles City; two granddaughters, LeAnne Wait of Waterloo; Valerie and Greg Hennings of Waverly and a great-granddaughter, Madelyn Hennings of Waverly.
