Brief Illness Proves
Fatal To Prominent
Nora Springs Woman

Mrs. J. W. Kennedy, 72, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, in the Mercy hospital at Mason City, as the result of a heart attack. Her sudden death shocked and grieved the community where she had been an active and prominent citizen for 44 years.

She had been indisposed Sunday and Monday, becoming worse Tuesday morning, when she was taken to the hospital in the Sheckler ambulance.

The funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, September 18, in the Methodist church, with the pastor, the Rev. J. Ellis Webb, officiating. Interment will be in Park Cemetery.

The Kennedys' foster son M/Sgt. and Mrs. Charles Kennedy and two children of Santa Ana,Calif., are expected to arrive here Friday.

Mrs. Kennedy, nee Cecil Ione Soper, was born June 24, 1882, at Hampton; one of two children of Albert Miles and Carrie Bangs Soper. Her only brother, Bert Soper, died Jan. 1, 1939.

She was married to J. W. Kennedy on July 3, 1906 at Hampton. They came to Nora Springs March 28, 1910 and have lived here ever since.

Mrs. Kennedy was a life-long member of the Methodist church and had always been active in church work in Nora Springs. She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1909; of the Rebekah lodge since 1910; and was also a member of H.D. S. unit No. 449 of the American Legion Auxilary and of the order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem at Mason City. She had also belonged to numerous local social and study groups.

She is survived by her husband, J. W. Kennedy of Nora Springs; a foster son M/Sgt Charles Kennedy of Santa Ana, Calif; and two grandchildren.

Among relatives and friends from a distance who came for the rites were M/Sgt. and Mrs. Charles Kennedy and family, Santa Ana,Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Leonard, Akron, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Mallory and Mrs. F. Wulbrant, all of Hampton; Mrs. Bert Soper and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Stockdale of Iowa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wolff, of Rowan and Mr. and Mrs. Myron Webster of Osage.
