CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Bernard Palmer, 89, of Charles City, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010 at 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 106 Chapel Lane, in Charles City on Friday, Dec. 3, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Carl Ries as celebrant. Burial with military rites will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

A visitation will be held at Fullerton Funeral Home, 401 Blunt Street, in Charles City on Thursday, Dec. 2 from 4 until 6 p.m. with a Rosary Service to begin at 4:30 p.m. and a Scripture service to begin at 6 p.m.

Stories, thoughts and condolences may be shared with the family on the funeral home website at www.Fullertonfh.com .

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Iowa.

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Bernard Palmer, 89, of Charles City, died Sunday Nov. 28, 2010, at 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Bernard was born in Charles City, on Dec. 6, 1920. He grew up on a farm in rural Charles City, which he would eventually come to own. Bernard attended Academy Catholic School. He enjoyed working on the farm his entire life. He also was employed at White Farm as a tool and dye maker for 39 years.

Bernard was united in marriage to Carma June Smith on Feb. 21, 1941, in Osage. They were happily married for 65 years before her passing in 2005. Bernard also served his country proudly in the Army during World War II.

Bernard found strength in his Catholic faith and was an active member in the Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, Moose Lodge and the Farm Bureau. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards, reading and was a very good dancer.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Kent Hobert, Gary Palmer and Tom Palmer; sister, Irene Klingseis; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carma; son, Allan Hobert; infant daughter, Connie Marie Palmer; two brothers; and two sisters.
