Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene with a public scripture service beginning at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church Monday.

Dale Carl Albert Wilken was born northeast of Clarksville in Butler County, a son of Arnold H. and Bertha Wilken, and died Thursday (Dec. 28, 2000) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City of heart complications.

He was baptized and confirmed as a member of the First United Church of Christ of Pleasant Valley. Dale was proud of his perfect Sunday school attendance at Pleasant Valley. He attended the Pleasant Valley country school graduating third in his eighth grade class of three members. At the age of 16, he started driving truck for various businesses.

He was united in marriage to Carol Jean Kingery in Dec. 10, 1950, at First Presbyterian Church in Greene. To this union five children were born.

He was employed at Schield Bantum in Waverly for two-and-one-half years and farmed in the Clarksville area from 1953 to 1964. After moving to Greene, he drove for Sperry Transportation in Charles City for 10 years. He later drove for Midwest Emory of Chicago until an injury in 1983 caused him to retire from driving semi.

Dale and Jean later divorced but continued a family relationship until his death.

He enjoyed playing cards, listening and dancing to country and old-time music, and spending time with his family. Dale enjoyed sharing his over-the-road experiences, jokes and stories with anyone who would listen.

Dale is survived by his former wife, Jean Wilken, of Greene; three daughters, Linda Meek and her friend, Rob Lenz, of Osage, Lana and Dan Miller of Charles City, and LeAnn and Tom Merfeld of Rudd; one son, Leland and Lisa Wilken of Adel; 11 grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; his parents, Arnold and Bertha Wilken, of Clarksville; two brothers, Donald and Gert Wilken of Clarksville and Darrel and Doris Wilken of Cedar Falls; one sister, Shirley and Marlin Klar of Grundy Center; and several nieces and nephews.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the family.
