In recording the death of Mrs. O. P. Waterbury who passed to her reward on Thursday, June 2nd, we have also to record that she was the first white child born in Floyd county.

On February 23, 1854, Josephine L. Forbes was born at Charles City, and at her death was 73 years, 3 months and 9 days old**.

She is the last of twelve children, and two of her own children, Mary Bella, aged 25, and George F., 38 years old, have gone the way of all before her.

In early life she lived for a time in Illinois, later made her home with a sister, Mrs. Jane Hockman, until her marriage with James Marshall, at Waterloo, Iowa, on October 13, 1873. Her husband died December 8, 1900, in his 58th year.

The six remaining children are: W.H. Marshall of Nora Springs; Mrs. Margaret E. Schultz of St. Petersburg, Florida; James R. Marshall of Nora Springs; Mrs. Ethel Siemer of Aitkin, Minnesota; Mrs. Josephine M. Dowd of Floyd; and Mrs. Ruth G. Demo of Nora Springs. All of the children were with her at her death except Mrs. Siemer who had just returned to her home.

In 1907 Mrs. Marshall became the wife of Mr. O. P. Waterbury, who today mourns the death of the partner of his old age.

Besides her children, there are 24 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two step children: Mrs. Minnie Kalb of Owatonna,Minnesota; A.L. Waterbury of Aurora, Illinois.

Mrs. Waterbury has been a member of the Methodist church of Nora Springs for 23 years and has rendeedered to it help according to her ability.

She was also a member of the Eastern Star, the Rebekahs, and the Royal Neighbor Lodges, all of which unite in paying tribute to her memory.

During the last two years Mrs. Waterbury has been in failing health and while during the winter months she and her husband have sought milder climates in the south, yet this spring she became very ill and gradually grew weaker.

Everthing that love and care could do has been done to relieve her sufferings, but death finally claimed a good woman, one who will be much missed, not only by her immediate family but by a large circle of friends and acquaintances.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. H.D. Green Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church and the body was laid to rest in Park cemetery.
