Joseph G. Linkenmeyer, 86, of Charles City, died Sunday evening, November 22, 2010, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Per Joe’s request, he has been cremated with no services.

Joseph George Linkenmeyer was born May 21, 1924, in Ionia, the son of George and Anna (Tilkes) Linkenmeyer. He married Theresa Finnegan on August 27, 1948, at St. Boniface Church in Ionia. Joe enlisted in the United States Navy in July of 1942, serving in the Pacific Theater as a Gunner’s Mate 1st Class, he was honorably discharged in April of 1946. He was employed at the Oliver in Charles City and Rath Packing Company in Waterloo until his retirement in 1984.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Linkenmeyer of Charles City; daughter, Jennifer (Max) Wildes of Evansdale; grandson, David (Lisa) Young; great-grandsons, AJ and Jacob Young of Asbury; brother, George (Mary) Linkenmeyer of Waterloo; many brothers and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Laura, Agatha, Luella, and Ramona; and a brother, Francis.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.

CHARLES CITY — Joe Linkenmeyer, 86, of Charles City, formerly of Waterloo, died Nov. 21, 2010.

He was born May 21, 1924, on a farm near North Washington, son of George and Anna Tilkes Linkenmeyer. He married Theresa Finnegan on Aug. 27, 1948, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Ionia.

Mr. Linkenmeyer served in the U.S. Navy, and retired from Rath Packing Co.

Survived by: at the time of his death, his wife; a daughter, Jenny (Max) Wildes of Evansdale; a grandson; two great-grandchildren; a stepgranddaughter; and a brother, George (Mary) of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: his parents; four sisters, Laura Flick, Agatha Wegner, Luella McMullen and Ramona Linkenmeyer; and a brother, Francis.

Joint memorial services for Gilbert and Madonna Bynons and Joe and Theresa Linkenmeyer: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Ionia, with inurnment in St. Boniface Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Paul Johann Alta Vista Post 4069. Visitation will be for an hour before services Saturday at the church. Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
