MERLAND C. LINES

MARBLE ROCK - Funeral services for Merland C. Lines, 82, of 2530 Hickory Ave., will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock with Pastor Marjorie Bradshaw officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Marble Rock.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Merland Cletus Lines was born Nov. 9, 1918, in Ulster Township, Floyd County, a son of Elmer Claude and Mata Lena (Ewald) Lines. He died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

He received his education in the Marble Rock public schools where he participated in the high school band and debate team. He graduated in 1936. Throughout the years he was a proud supporter of the school and was a member of the Marble Rock Alumni Association.

Merland started farming as a young man on the family farm where he continued until his retirement. On April 10, 1949, he was united in marriage to LaVonne Arline Daughenbaugh at the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock. To this union five children were born. He was proud of his family and his family's ancestry. He was considered the family historian and genealogist. Merland was always interested in community affairs and politics.

He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock where he was a member of the Methodist men's group. His pastimes included reading, playing solitaire, watching television game shows and visiting with friends.

Merland will be sadly missed by his loving wife, LaVonne, of Marble Rock; two daughters, Joyce Hanna of Lake Mills and Debra Lines of Leland; one son, Bruce Lines, of Minneapolis; and two grandchildren, Craig David Hanna and Kayla Marie Hanna.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Craig in 1970 and Juhl in 1994; his parents; and a sister, Ilene Ackley.
