LESTER H. KOCK

ROCKFORD - Lester H. Kock, 86, of 304 Second Ave. N.W., died Sunday (Feb. 18, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Unit, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford with Pastor Clarence Baalson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene, and will continue one hour before the service at the church Tuesday.

Lester Harold Kock was born May 18, 1914, in rural Rockford, Floyd County, a son of William and Helen (Menken) Kock.

He received his education in the rural schools near Rockford, and as a young man started working on the family farm. He later farmed on his own in the Rockford and Rudd area.

On May 18, 1939, he was united in marriage to Esther Pearl Bowen at the family home in Rockford. They farmed south of Rockford until 1957 when he became employed at the lumber yard at Osage. He was later employed by the Rockford Lumber Yard and the Rockford Elevator. He was last employed as a custodian for the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock School District in Rockford until his retirement in 1973.

Lester was a charter member of the Rockford Senior Citizens and donated many volunteer hours to community projects and delivering meals. He enjoyed playing pool at the Senior Citizen Center and playing 500 and pitching horse shoes.

He will be remembered as a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford.

Those thankful for having shared his life are his loving wife of 62 years, Esther Kock of Liebe Care Center, Greene; two daughters, Kathryn and her husband, Joe Gibbs, of Garner, and Marilyn Parcher of Clear Lake; three sons and their spouses, Harold and Mary Kock of Greene, Dean and Jackie Kock of Nora Springs, and Steven and Carol Kock of Kirtland, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Lester was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Kock in 1957; two sons-in-law, Nick Parcher and Roger Hrubes; his parents; and two brothers, Harry and Robert Kock.
