CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Linda K. Apel, 63, of 403 Richings St. in Charles City, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Stories, thoughts and condolences may be shared with the family on the funeral home website at www.Fullertonfh.com . For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Linda Kay Apel was born on April 7, 1947, in Charles City, the daughter of Kenneth and Lorraine (Ferch) Hovey. She graduated with the Class of 1966 from Charles City High School.
Shortly after graduation she was united in marriage to Ron Apel on June 25, 1966, at the Central Methodist Church. Later she joined the Bethany Alliant Church where she was active and was a member of the 60-and-over group. About the only times she missed church was when she had family activities or volunteer work to do for the many groups she helped. Some of the groups include Relay for Life for over 10 years, Hospice for several years and the Wa-Tan-Ye Club.

Linda always was there to help other people in need and was certainly there for her family whether they thought they needed it or not. She was generous to a fault, helpful and best of all good hearted in everything she did.

When she had time over the years, she and Ron liked to skate, snowmobile and get away with the kids to go camping.

Linda also held several work positions over the years, starting with Spurgeons Department store, working in the deli and handing out samples at Hy-Vee, and on and off with Charles City Transit as dispatch along with working with hundreds of families at all the locations of Fullerton Funeral Homes.

Those who shared Linda's closest life include her husband of 44 years, Ron; her mother, Lorraine (Ferch) Eckenrod, Charles City; her step-mother, Kathy Hovey, Charles City; her three children Lisa Apel, Steve Apel and Aranda Cowell, all of Charles City; and Chad and his wife Shannon Apel, Blooming Prairie, Minn.; five grandchildren, Jordan Apel and Megan Taylor, Charles City; Brett Cagley and Leanne Douglas, New Hampton; Caedyn Apel of Charles City; and Logan and Levi Apel, Blooming Prairie; one great-granddaughter, Braelyn Cagley; six sisters, Deb (Kirk) Bailey, Jean (Jerry) Wiltse, Nancy Eckenrod, all of Charles City; Karla (Jeff) Klein, Prior Lake, Minn.; Lori Westendorf and Pam Cook both of Charles City; six brothers, Keith (Cindy) Eckenrod, Tom (Lori) Eckenrod, all of Charles City; Mike Eckenrod, Grand Junction, Colo.; Bill (Jill) Eckenrod, Waverly; Tim (Deb) Hovey and Dan Hovey, both of Charles City; and a whole host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

Her father, Kenneth Hovey, and stepfather, Richard "Dick" Eckenrod, preceded her in death.
