IONIA, IOWA - Shirley (Mrs. Donald) Monaghan, 73, of 1460 Cheyenne Ave., Ionia, died Saturday (Oct. 27, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

A funeral mass for Shirley will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. The Rev. Stanley Hayek will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m., Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and there will be a Vigil Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the Mass, Wednesday morning at the church.

Shirley Ann Muetz Monaghan was born Sept. 18, 1928, at Colwell, the daughter of William and Helen (Quirk) Muetz. She received her education from the Colwell and Immaculate Conception schools.

On Oct. 8, 1946, she was united in marriage to Donald Monaghan at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Shirley and Don farmed in the Deerfield area.

Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, helping Don on the farm, cooking, entertaining family and friends, and playing cards.

Living family members include her husband, Donald of Ionia; two sons and their wives, Gary and Cheri Monaghan of Reinbeck, and Ron and Debbie Monaghan of Mason City; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Her parents, an infant daughter, Sherry; a brother, Ken Muetz; and a sister, Betty Cox preceded her in death.
