Death: October 17, 2010Kenneth J. Novak, 51, of Waterloo, died Sunday, October 17, 2010, at his home.
A funeral Mass for Kenneth Novak will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
Kenneth Joseph Novak was born June 4, 1959, in Cresco, the son of Anthony and Gladys (Zobeck) Novak. During high school Kenneth worked at the Comet Bowling Alley until the age of 17. He graduated from the Charles City High School in 1977. In November of 1977, he went to work for Bob Crawford at PlaMor Lanes in Muscatine.
He was united in marriage to Judy Ann Ball in 1978, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. They later divorced. In 1979, Kenneth bought the bowling alley in Columbus Junction and in 1987 he moved to Muscatine, where he managed PlaMor Lanes. Later in 1993, he moved to Nora Springs and ran Stardust Lanes, where he made many friends. In 2005, he moved to Waterloo, where he worked at Cadillac Lanes until present day. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles. His interests included playing the accordion, music, singing Karaoke, bowling, phoshball, boating, camping, fishing and being outdoors. Kenneth also enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, coaching his son’s baseball, grilling and cooking, spending time with family and friends, fundraisers for school events and catering parties through the bowling alley in Nora Springs.
Living family members include his four children, Chad (Amy) Novak of Mason City, Russ Novak and Fiancée, Jess Nuss of Tripoli, Quintin Novak of Mankato, Minn. and Josh Novak of Nora Springs; four grandchildren, Andrew, Kylie, Avery and Haley Novak; father, Tony Novak of Charles City; five brothers, Wes (Ellen) Novak of Conrad, Don (Sheila) Novak of Sprit Lake, Gary Novak of Charles City, Danny (Lori) Novak of Charles City and Kevin (Anna) Novak of Independence; sister, Terri Novak of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandparents; and his mother.
