Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Crawford of near Osage, have received official notice from the war department informing them of the death of their son, Pfc. Eldon E. Crawford, 24, in Luxembourg December 11, 1944. Pfc. Crawford was a radio operator in the 11th Corps of the 314th Field Artillery, with General Patton's Third Army.

Eldon was born April 10, 1920 on a farm east of Nora Springs. When three years of age he moved with his parents and brother to a farm southwest of Osage. He he grew to manhood and farmed with his father until he was inducted into the service on June 24, 1942.

Pfc. Crawford received most of his training in Camp Carson, Colorado, specializing in radio. He received the good conduct medal for "meritorious services rendered" while at Camp Carson. He also spent some time in Camp Roberts, California and Camp Butner, North Carolina, being sent overseas to England in July 1944. He was soon sent to France and while seving there was killed in action.

Eldon Crawford was a member of the Christian Church in Nora Springs having been baptized in 1933.

Besides his parents, he is survived by one brother, George, a first class seaman in the navy, who is on the east coast awaiting shipping orders.
