MABEL A. QUINBY

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Mrs. Mabel A. Quinby, 92, of 502 N. Hawkeye Ave., died Tuesday (Sept. 26, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs, with the Rev. Richard Pippert and the Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Interment will be in Park Cemetery in Nora Springs.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel in Nora Springs.

The family suggests memorials to the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs.

Mabel was born June 12, 1908, in Nora Springs, the daughter of Roger and Minnie Etta (Clough) Kelley. She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1926 and continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school in Williams.

Mabel married Ted Quinby on Sept. 4, 1938. They lived in Cresco, Decorah, LaCrosse, Wis., and Springfield, Illinois. Mabel moved back to Nora Springs in 1943 after her husband's death and started teaching school in Nora Springs until her retirement in the Spring of 1971.

Mabel enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, handwork and reading. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs.

Mabel is survived by her son, Jim Quinby and his wife, Ellie, of Roswell, Georgia; three grandsons, James R. Quinby Jr. and his wife, Kristin, of Marietta, Georgia, Brian Quinby, of Roswell, Georgia, and Patrick Quinby, of Boulder, Colorado; and one great-granddaughter, Madeline Quinby.

Her parents; husband, Ted, in 1943; infant daughter, Linda Lee Quinby; and two brothers, Ray and Lester Kelley, preceded her in death.
