CHARLES CITY — Anthony F. Schmalen, 61, of 200 B St., died Friday (May 8, 1998) at home.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek, officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, with a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with the family greeting friends from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be a rosary by St. Catherines Circle at 3 p.m. and a parish scripture service at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

Anthony Francis Schmalen was born May 12, 1936, in Charles City.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Charles City; two daughters, Brenda Johansen, of Latimer, and Elizabeth Schmalen, of Coralville; one son, Tony Schmalen Jr. of Sioux Falls, S.D.; four grandchildren; one brother, Bernard Schmalen, of Belvidere, Ill.; and two sisters, Kathryn Hartogh, of Charles City, and Theresa Dobbs, of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
