CHARLES CITY — Wesley Trettin, 85, of 510 First Ave., Charles City, died Tuesday (Oct. 13, 1998) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Zion Lutheran Church, Rockford, with Pastor John Albrecht officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, Iowa.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. today at the Schumburg Funeral Home, Rockford.

Wesley E. Trettin, the son of Albert F. and Katherina E. (Claus) Trettin, was born July 13, 1913, in Grafton, one of nine children. He was educated in the school system near Grafton.

In 1929, he drove his family’s horses and sleighs to Rockford. His family followed to the Rockford area later in the year with their household belongings on the train.

Wes helped with the family farm until shortly before World War II, when he leased and operated a filling station until 1942. He then went back into farming until 1964. Wes again went into the oil business with Farm Service from Charles City. After retiring from this position, he was employed by Red Owl Foods and later by Iowa State University as a seed inspector.

Wes was married to Dallas Schindele on March 10, 1937 in the Zion Lutheran Church, in Rockford. He and Dallas moved to Charles City in 1968.

Wesley is survived by three children, Maxine and her husband, Paul Tegtmeier, of Rockford; James and his wife, Erika, of Mentor, Ohio; and Steve and his wife, Alice, of Charles City; sisters, Ella Schutt and Mable Trettin, of Mason City; brothers, Ed, Harold and George Trettin, of Rockford; sisters, Marie Weigand and Shirley Fullerton, both of Rockford; and special friend, Berniece Parker, of Rockford; seven grandchildren, Dan, Rick and Bill Tegtmeier; Luke, Brian and Kevin Trettin; and Diana Morris; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Wes was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother, Walter.
