IRENE M. BIGGS

ROCKFORD, IOWA - Irene M. Biggs, 76, of 302 Second St. N.E., Mason City, formerly of Rockford, died Thursday, December 23, 1999, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Rockford, with the Rev. Leo Riley of Holy Name Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today and will resume one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Monday.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Irene M. Biggs Memorial Fund.

Irene was born near Rockford in Floyd County on Oct. 6, 1923, one of 10 children of Guy and Ida Mary (O'Rourke) Biggs. Because of her disability, she remained in area nursing homes most of her life. That never stopped her enjoying being with little children and singing religious songs. "Trust and Obey" was her favorite.

She remained a member of Holy Name Catholic church in Rockford where she was baptized and had her first communion.

Irene is survived by four sisters, Elma Dow, Nora Springs, Gladys Waters, Rockford, Sylvia and her husband, Melvin Pahl, Harrison, Ark., and Evelyn and her husband, Don Hogan, Dougherty; two brothers, Glenn and his wife, Donna Biggs, Rockford, and James and his wife, Bonnie Biggs, Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Ida; and three brothers, Henry, Robert and Earl.
