Death: September 5, 2010Frances “Berneice” Mullarky, 85, of Charles City, died Sunday morning, September 5, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.
Funeral services for Frances “Berneice” Mullarky will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd. Pastor Paul Phillips will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and after 9:30 a.m. at the church on Thursday.
Frances Berneice Vaverka was born June 4, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Alvin and Frances (Cannon) Vaverka. She graduated from the East Waterloo High School and later became a LPN in Dubuque. On July 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Christensen. They later divorced. On March 1, 1974, she was united in marriage to Irving Mullarky in Freeport, Ill. Berneice was employed as a Nurses Aid at the Chautauqua Nursing Homes, LPN at Salsbury Baptist Home and Mercy Hospital. She was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd and a Foster Grandparent. Her interests included Bible reading, crocheting and sewing.
Living family members include her three daughters, Patricia Christensen of Floyd, Catherine (William) Johnson of Des Moines and Jeanine (Bernie) Bernard of Union; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Karen Saleh of Rockford; brother, Orvis “Bob” (Juanita) Vaverka of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jeannette Shannon; son, Robert Christensen; and a brother, Alvin Vaverka.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Gospel Lighthouse in Floyd or the American Heart Association.
