Virginia "Gina" Jones

ROCKFORD, IOWA - Virginia "Gina" Jones, 89, of
Rockford died Monday, July 26, 2010, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 30, at First United Methodist Church, 21 Third St. N.W. in Rockford, with the Rev. Judy Wooton officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at Fullerton-Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 W. Main St. in Rockford.

Virginia was born on January 6, 1921, in Mason City, the daughter of Ferdinand "Fred" August and Clara Belle (Burgess) Hansen. She grew up in the Rockford area and graduated from Rockford High School in 1938.

Virginia was united in marriage to Donald Jones on January 12, 1939, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She was a cook at the RRMR Schools for 34 years and became very popular for her cinnamon rolls.

Virginia was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rockford and was active in the Afternoon Circle. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.

Virginia liked to tend her garden and enjoyed crafts, needlework and quilting. She liked to play cards and other games. In addition, Virginia was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking and making ice cream for her family. Most of all, she loved her family and friends and looked forward to spending time with them.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Conni (Larry) Shanks and Wendy (Randy) Demaray; four grandchildren, Bradley and Christen Shanks, Natalie Wedeking and Brandon Demaray; four great-grandchildren, Austin and Krista Shanks and Abigayle and Gabrielle Wedeking; sister-in-law, Roberta Hansen; brother-in-law, Donald Johnson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald, in 2008; sister, Georgia Johnson; brothers, Robert and Roger Hansen; sisters-in-law, Ruth DeSart, Marjorie Hansen, Lucille Jones, and Viola Jones; and brothers-in-law, Francis DeSart, Lloyd Jones, and Robert Jones.
