Mrs. W. C. Benson
Mrs. W. C. Benson, who had been in failing health for a year past, passed away peacefully last Wednesday evening at 6:30 o'clock, the cause of her death being due to general senile debility.
Amy A. Wood was born January 30th, 1821, near Saratoga Springs, N.Y., later moving to Livingstone county, near Nunda. She was converted at the age of twelve years and three years later was baptized in the Genesee river and united with the Baptist church of Oak Hill.
In April 1841, she was united in marriage to Mr. W. C. Benson at Nunda Valley. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Benson moved to Holcomb, Illinois, where they resided until 1888, coming that year to Rockford, Iowa, which has since remained the family home.
Widowed in 1894, Mrs. Benson continued to maintain her own home until the end. She was a woman of remarkable alertness both physically and mentally for one of her advanced years and kept about to the day of her death, giving up only about an hour and a half before the end came and retaining consciousness almost to the last.
Of her eight children, but one, Albert Benson, of this place, survives.
The funeral was held from the home Friday afternoon at 2:30 and was conducted by Rev. C. F. Lusk of Newton, a pastor of the deceased some twenty years ago. Those in attendance from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Hale Crocker of Waterloo.
