Charles J. Hoffman was born on Aug. 31, 1948 in New Hampton, the son of Henry and Evelyn (Flick) Hoffman. He graduated from New Hampton Community High School, Class of 1966.

Following high school Charlie honorably and faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

He was united in marriage to Patsy C. Kloster on Dec. 23, 1972, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Ionia. The couple have resided in Charles City for 32 years.

Charlie's interests and leisure activities included camping and enjoying the outdoors and his dogs, Lily and Molly. He will be best remembered for taking pride in and being a very hard worker, having a great love for teasing people, making them laugh and putting a smile on their face.
