CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Clifford D. Wendel, 81, of Charles City died Wednesday evening, June 23, 2010, at his home in Charles City.
Memorial services for Clifford Wendel will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Alliance Church in Charles City with Pastor Kent Sovine officiating. Inurnment will be 3 p.m. on Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, with military honors by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City. Visitation will continue an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
Clifford Dale Wendel was born March 20, 1929, at Mason City, the son of Harold and Liola Amanda (Kilfoil) Wendel. He received his education from Mason City country schools. Clifford served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
On April 15, 1953, he was united in marriage to Della Adkins in Minnesota. Clifford farmed near Mason City until 1960 when they moved to Waterloo where he was employed by John Deere and Wonder Bread. He retired from John Deere after 30 years. He was a member of the UAW. His interests included camping, traveling to Texas and visiting with family and friends.
Living family members include his wife, Della Wendel of Charles City; four children: Clifford (Susan) Wendel of Newton, Dennis (Chris) Wendel of Jesup, Michel (Kim) Wendel of Charles City and Roxanna Wendel of Sidney; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers: George (Jeannine) Wendel of Mason City, Tom (Sharon) Wendel of Waterloo, Harold (Doris) Wendel of Mason City and Jerry (Iris) Wendel of Mason City; four sisters: Lila Perry of Scottsdale, Ariz., Mary (Jerry) Baker of Mason City, Lyola Bohnsack of Mason City and Paula (John) Chambers of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Juanita Johnson; and two brothers, Howard and Wilbur Wendel.
Memorials will be used for care packages for the troops overseas.
