NEWTON, Estella (Day) 1885-1980

Rites here for Estella Newton

Funeral services for Estella Newton, 94, of Osage, were held Thursday afternoon at the Champion Funeral Home. The Reverend Jack Speer, pastor of the United Methodist Church, was in charge of the rites at the Champion Funeral Home and burial was in the Howardville Cemetery.

Mrs. Newton died February 26, [1980] at Faith Home, where she had resided the past three years.

Estella Day was born in Floyd County July 4, 1885, the daughter of Charles and Hattie Day. She grew to womanhood in that area and was graduated from Floyd High School in 1903.

Joseph Newton and Stella Day were married April 20, 1904. They farmed near Floyd until moving to that city in later years. She had made her home with her son James for several years. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.

Surviving are four sons, Cliff of Charles City, Howard and James of Osage and Keith of Bettendorf; one daughter, Wilma, Mrs. Arlo O'Brien of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Woodward of Flint, Michigan, Viola Traeger of Hawkeye, and Leota O'Brien of Sumner; one brother, Clarence Day of Jackson, California; nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, one daughter, Mrs. Leo McDermott; one son, Irwin; one brother and one sister.
