MARBLE ROCK — Mildred R. Keifer, 92, of 102 Iowa St., Marble Rock, died Friday (April 10, 1998) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock, with the Rev. Rosemary Rohde-Frank officiating. Burial will be in the Westside Cemetery in Marble Rock.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel, with a 7:30 p.m. public Scripture service. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to services.

Mildred R. Keifer was born on July 2, 1905, in rural Union Township, Floyd County, the daughter of William and Mary (Peddycoart) Crosby.

Mildred received her education in the rural schools near Greene, and as a young lady worked as a housekeeper for families in the Greene area.

She was united in marriage to George Bernard Keifer on Dec. 23, l936, in Minnesota. They farmed in the rural Marble Rock area for more than forty years, retiring in 1978 when they moved to Marble Rock.

Following George's death on June 18, 1989, Mildred continued to make her home in Marble Rock until entering the Chautauqua Guest Home in January 1996.

Mildred will be remembered for her homemade bread, gardening, bingo and playing cards. She also enjoyed fishing and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy and Jim Petit, of Garnett, Kan., and Barbara and Wayne Rumsey, of Dodge City, Kan.; four grandchildren, Debbie Bean, Vicki King, Michael Ackley, and Chad Ackley; six greatgrandchildren, Sandy Coleman, Kevin Bean, Jeremiah Miller, Heather Miller, Cole Ackley, and Hagan Ackley; and two great-great-grandchildren, Aubury and Zabrian Coleman; and one sister, Lola Mae Powell, of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson, Randy Innes; her parents; and eight sisters, Ethel Albrecht Worley, Goldie Keifer, Gladys Uker, Opal Harrold, Thelma Harrold, Dolly and Anna Mae Crosby, and one sister who died in infancy.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Heart to Home Hospice in Charles City.
