ARNOLD P. STAUDT

MARBLE ROCK - A funeral Mass for Arnold P. Staudt, 88, of Marble Rock, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Roseville, rural Marble Rock, with Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Roseville. There will be no visitation. At the request of Mr. Staudt, his body was cremated.

Arnold Peter Staudt was born July 23, 1911, in Union Township, Floyd County, a son of John Stephen and Anna (Yunk) Staudt, and died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

He received his education in the rural schools near Marble Rock and later attended St. Mary's School in Roseville. He graduated from Marble Rock high School in 1929.

Arnold farmed in the Marble Rock area his entire life. On Nov. 20, 1945, he was united in marriage to Helen M. Laydon at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Nashua. To this union were born three children.

He was a charter member of the Marble Rock Lions Club since 1954, served as president of the Marble Rock Historical Society for several years, served on the Marble Rock City Council and the Farmer's Coop Elevator Board. He was instrumental in forming the Iowa Egg Council and served on its board for eight years.

Arnold has been active in the Boy Scouts of America since 1938, serving as a Scout Master, Executive Board member, and Scout Council Properties Committee member. He was instrumental in the acquisition of the land now known as the Winnebago Scout Camp.

He was a life-long, faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Roseville and Catholic Lay Chairman of the Archdiocese of Dubuque.

Living family members include his wife, Helen, of Marble Rock; one daughter, Diane Staudt of Des Moines; two sons and their spouses, Eugene and Robin of Delevan, Wis., and Jon and Ann of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Quinn, Andrew and Genevieve; one sister, Elizabeth Wilkie, of Miami, Fla.; and one brother, Clarence and his wife, Evelyn Staudt, of Marble Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Aloysuis Staudt.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Arnold P. Staudt Memorial Fund in care of the family.
