CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Mildred L. Kruse, 99, of Charles City, died Saturday morning (June 5, 2010) at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funerals services for Mildred Kruse will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. Pastor Gary Van Wert and Chaplain Sam Mack will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will continue an hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Mildred Louise Koehler was born on Nov. 29, 1910, at Rockford, the daughter of Edward and Emma (Heitz) Koehler. She graduated from Rockford High school in 1928.

On May 30, 1935, she was united in marriage to Donavon H. Kruse at Charles City. Mildred was a teacher in rural schools in Ulster Township, assistant cashier in a bank, deputy county auditor and retired as a bookkeeper for the Iowa Terminal Railroad. She was volunteer treasurer for the Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years and has been treasurer for the Floyd County Historical Society for over 30 years. As a couple, Mildred and Don were named Man and Woman of the Year by the Charles City Chamber in 1989.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Colwell Culture Club, various organizations and the first woman to apply for a membership at the Elks Lodge No. 418. Her interests included gardening, flowers, cooking, birds and reading.

Living family members include her two daughters, Sharon (Al) Uetz and Nancy (Jerry) Joerger all of Charles City; four grandchildren, Julie (Kevin) Endelman, Jill Uetz, Curt (Kim) Joerger and Stephanie (Torie) Korth; eight great grandchildren, Levi Endelman, Maxwell and Austin Uetz, Megan and Justin Joerger, Chase Skarpness and Madison and Kennedy Korth; sister, Arlene (George) Trettin of Rockford; brother, Donald (Elizabeth) Koehler of Rockford; sister-in-law, Myra Koehler of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1992; two grandchildren, Stacie Lynn and Alan Uetz; two brothers, Lloyd and Dale Koehler; and a sister, Wilma Damgaard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Elks Lodge No. 418 Charitable Trust, Floyd County Historical Society, Trinity United Methodist Church or the charity of choice.
