EDWARD "ED" E. BURKE

ROCKFORD, IOWA - Edward E. "Ed" Burke, 68, of 107 Second St. S.W., died Saturday morning, July 22, 2000, at Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Tuesday at First Methodist Church in Rockford with the Rev. Marjorie M. Bradshaw officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Fullerton-Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 W. Main, Rockford, and one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.

Ed was born on March 2, 1932, in Mason City. For the next ten years his maternal grandparents, William and Lena Fisher, raised him. He attended school at Nora Springs, Rudd and then Rockford. He farmed with his family and then was employed at the Rockford Brick and Tile. For the next 29 years, he worked for Shield Bantam in Waverly, retiring in 1994.

On Jan. 20, 1951, Ed was united in marriage to Maxine Myers at the Methodist Personage at Caledonia, Minn. To this union were born seven children. Ed enjoyed his family fishing trips to Lake Michigan for salmon and fishing area lakes in Iowa. He also spent time sharpening his fishing skills by reading fishing magazines and watching fishing shows. His favorite times were spent with his grandchildren.

Those thankful in sharing Ed's life include his wife of 49 years, Maxine, Rockford; three daughters, Marilou and her husband, Don Dormeier, Fort Wayne, Indiana, Ellen Weide, Hampton, and Kristi Mason, Rockford; four sons, Steven Burke, Des Moines, Ervin and his wife, Jane Burke, Ottumwa, Michael and his wife, Mary Burke, Harlan, and Robert and his wife, Michelle Burke, Rochester, Minnesota; and 12 grandchildren, Anne and Katie Dormeier, Jill, Jodi, Jenna and Todd Burke, Garry, Erin and Bridgette Weide, Paul Burke, Lindsay and Chelsea Mason.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
