Lois was born on February 22, 1918, one of five children, to Thomas and Bessie (Tlam) Allen in Mason City. She was a graduate of Mason City High School with the Class of 1935. She then attended nursing school. After meeting her future husband at the Surf, she and Chester Wolters were united in marriage on March 5, 1941, in Mason City. Together they had eight children. Chester and Lois lived on several farms around Mason City, moving seven times in six years until 1947 when they purchased the present farm.

Along with taking care of her large family, she planted her vegetable and flower gardens, and enjoyed her cats, chickens, deer and wild turkeys. She knitted and crocheted, as well as made clothing for her family.

She was known to many as a sweet lady, who was very giving to the point of thinking of others before herself. Lois traveled to Hawaii, and made two trips to the Netherlands. The second time, she was able to find her grandmother's birth home.

Survivors include her six children, Judy (Alan) Gage, of Seattle, Wash.; Capt. Thomas Wolters, of Nora Springs; Charles (Robin) Wolters, of Rockford; Terry (Janice) Wolters, of Mason City; Faye (Marv) Gaubatz, of Rockwell; and Jean Wolters and her significant other, John Awe, of Rockwell; 13 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

Her parents, husband Chester in 1980; two sons, Allen and Richard Wolters; one sister, Wilma Hopper; and three brothers, Ellis, Virgil, and Wallace Allen, preceded her in death.
