CHARLES CITY, IOWA -- Doris LaVonne Geesman, 67, of Charles City, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, of heart complications.

Survivors include her husband, John; two daughters, Lois Gilmore of Eagan, Minn., and Jayne Pluth of Iowa City; a son, John T. of Diesbach, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; her mother, Eunice Riebhoff Strayer of Algona; a sister, Maxine Marlow of Clear Lake; and a brother, Donald Riebhoff of Algona.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Clarice Luedtke.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, Charles City, with burial at 2 p.m. in Riverview Cemetery, Algona. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until services Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Geesman received her registered nursing degree from Iowa Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. She was employed as a registered nurse for 43 years, working at Cedar Valley Hospice (Floyd County Memorial Hospital), Charles City, retiring in 1994.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at Riverview Cemetery in Algona, with Pastor Richard Iles of Good Hope United Methodist Church of Algona officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the funeral home.

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Doris LaVonne (Mrs. John) Geesman, 67, 2081 Quail Ave., died Thursday (May 3, 2001) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn., of heart complications.

The funeral for Doris LaVonne Geesman will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City, with Pastor Mark A. Anderson of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Charles City, officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Riverview Cemetery in Algona, with Pastor Richard Iles of Good Hope United Methodist Church of Algona, officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Geesman, the former Doris LaVonne Riebhoff, was born May 21, 1933, in Burt, Kossuth County, the daughter of Clarence S. and Eunice L. (Doege) Riebhoff. She attended country school near Burt and graduated from Burt High School in 1951. Doris received her registered nurse degree from the Iowa Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1954.

On July 10, 1954, in Rockwell City, Doris was united in marriage to John G. Geesman. The couple moved shortly thereafter to make their home in Greene. In 1980 they moved to make their home in rural Charles City.

For 43 years, Doris was a proud and caring professional in the nursing field. She served nearly all of her career as a registered nurse for the Cedar Valley Hospital, which later became the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. Doris retired in 1994.

Doris had been a member of the United Methodist Church in Greene.

She very much enjoyed quilting and sewing, flower and vegetable gardening and crossword puzzles. Most especially, Doris loved to be with her family. She was an awesome grandma to her grandkids who adored her. She loved to play with them and have fun with them.

Those thankful for sharing her life are her husband, John, of Charles City; three children, Lois Gilmore and her husband, Terry, of Egan, Minn., Jayne Pluth and her husband, Jim, of Iowa City, and John T. Geesman, of Diesbach, Minn.; her mother, Mrs. Eunice Riebhoff Strayer, of Algona; a sister, Mrs. Maxine Marlow, of Clear Lake; and a brother and his wife, Donald and Clara Riebhoff, of Algona; and seven grandchildren, Allison and Michael Gilmore, Daniel, Anthony and Michelle Pluth, and John W. and Ashley Geesman, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Her father and a sister, Clarice Luedtke, preceded her in death.
