Michael Putz, 45, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Charles City, died Sunday, April 25, 2010, at his home with his loving family at his side after a courageous two year battle with cancer.

Funeral services for Michael Putz will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at the Hauser Funeral Home. Reverend Tom Geelan will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

The family will greet friends Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time.

Michael John Putz was born November 6, 1964, at Mason City, the son of John and Pat (Doyle) Putz. His family later moved to Charles City where he was a 1983 graduate of Charles City High School. Michael attended Iowa State University and graduated with a degree in Hotel/Restaurant and Institutional Management in 1987. In the fall of 1987, he was accepted into the Walt Disney World College program where he began his career at the “happiest place on earth”.

Throughout his career at Disney, Michael’s passion allowed him to lead in many capacities. His contributions included Food and Beverage Manager at the Polynesian, Contemporary, Caribbean Beach and Old Key West resorts as well as Pleasure Island. He had the incredible opportunity to be a part of the opening teams at Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, Yacht and Beach Resort, Euro Disney and Castaway Cay with the Disney Cruise Line. He transitioned to Operations Manager and led all three water parks and then moved to Downtown Disney. His most recent assignment was the Operations Manager for the College and International Program which allowed him the opportunity to travel the world representing the Disney College Program.

His travels included Germany, China Korea, Portugal, and France. Michael’s other passion was his family and especially his three nephews which he spoiled on every holiday with gifts and trips to Walt Disney World. Michael touched so many lives with his unending generosity and kindness.

Michael is survived by his partner, Jose Antonio Cortes of Orlando, Fla.; his mother and step-father, Pat and Carl Crotty of Charles City; his sister, Kim (Chuck) Propes of Jacksonville, Fla.; his brother, David (Blair) Putz of Jacksonville, Fla; three nephews, Maxton Propes, Ryan Putz and Ethan Putz; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Putz; and maternal and paternal grandparents.
