Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Welton

Elizabeth “Betty” Welton, 95, a long time resident of Charles City, died on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Hampton.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, (641) 394-4331, 115 N. Broadway, in New Hampton, is in charge of arrangements.

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Elizabeth “Betty” Welton, 95, of Charles City, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Hampton, Iowa.

She was born June 26, 1914, at home in Charles City, daughter of Paul and Lizzie Schreiber Martens. She married Glenn R. Welton on June 20, 1939. He died August 8, 1984.

Mrs. Welton graduated from Charles City High School in 1932. She and her husband worked in real estate. She also owned and operated the Gift House for several years in the late 1960s.

Survived by two sons, Richard (Diane) of Mora, Minnesota, and Douglass (Malinda) of New Hampton; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by an infant son, Jon; a grandson; and two brothers, George and Marvin Martens.

Graveside services will be held at a later date, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, New Hampton, is in charge of arrangements.
