Emma Tahlkeanne Amelia Mohring was born on December 31, 1913 in Kossuth County, Iowa, the daughter of Klaas and Mary (Rath) Zimmerman. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Lotts Creek, Iowa. As a child, her family moved to the Rockford area, where she was confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage to Delwood “Heinie” Mohring on August 20, 1931 in Charles City. In 1936 her family again moved north of Charles City, her father would pass away soon after. Heinie and Emma would eventually move to their current home, the longtime family farm, north of Charles City.

Emma was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed taking care of her home and working on the farm. She also took pride that she still mowed her own yard and drove her car until the age of 95 years. Her family was important to her and she kept up with the daily events of their lives. She loved the family celebrations where she always volunteered to bring the pies, with raisin cream, apple and custard being her favorites.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delwood “Heinie” in 1987; great grandson, David Kapping in 1974; son-in-law, Delbert Kapping in 1990; sisters, Louise Anderson and Ella Hicok; and brothers, Herman, Benny and Emil Zimmerman.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Evelyn Kapping of Nashua; grandchildren, Barbara (Larry) Fuls of Charles City, Sheri (Darrell) Bonorden and Dennis (Judy) Kapping, all of Nashua; great grandchildren, Jenifer (Kurt) Leistikow, Amy (Jon) Paulus, Ashley Bonorden, Eric Kapping, Jeff Kapping and Kyle Bonorden; eight great-great grandchildren; sisters, Esther Meyne of Charles City and Maryanne Stenhart of Waverly; sister-in-law, Savera Zimmerman of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.
