Grace M. Griffin

Grace Mae (Boggess) Griffin, 95, formerly of 306 S. Joslin St. in Charles City, Iowa, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2008, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane in Charles City with the Rev. Carl A. Ries presiding. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City. The visitation will continue one hour prior to Grace’s service Friday at the church.

Grace Mae (Boggess) Griffin, the daughter of Calvin Sr. and Mabel (Frazee) Boggess was born on March 14, 1913 in rural Bassett, Iowa. She received her education at the Deerfield #9 School and graduated from the Colwell High School on May 18, 1934. On July 10, 1935 Grace was united in marriage to Alfred D. Griffin at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, Iowa. Mrs. Griffin was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to bake goodies, embroidery, making quilts and enjoyed going fishing with her husband, Alfred. Grace worked at the Checkerboard Café and she was a nurses aide at the De Buehr Nursing Home, both in Charles City, Iowa.

Grace had been a homemaker most all of her life. She took great pride in providing for her family, and being a nurturing mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was very family oriented and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and St. Jude’s Circle. Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Grace’s life are her two children, Theresa M. “Terri” (George) Laubscher of Charles City and Bernard A. (Irene) Griffin of Ankeny, IA; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude “Gertie” Houser of New Hampton, Iowa and Maebelle Stelzer of Charles City, Iowa as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding Grace in death are her parents; her husband Alfred D. Griffin in 1994; one son Eugene Griffin in 1995; daughter-in-law, Pearl Griffin in 2002; eight brothers; two sisters and a grandson, David Kriz.
