NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Doris E. Diegel, 84, of 27 N. Iowa Ave., died Thursday (Jan. 28, 1999) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Pippert and the Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday.

Doris E. Diegel was born at Ventura on May 8, 1914, to Charles E. and Emma (Festl) Kluver, where her father operated a general store.

In 1925, she moved to her mother's hometown, Nora Springs, where her father continued his business. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and received her undergraduate degree from Cornell College in Mount Vernon. She attended graduate school at the University of Iowa, and received her master's degree from New York University.

She taught at the Elkader Junior College and High School. From 1940 to 1943, she taught distributive education at Lincoln Senior High School in Lincoln, Nebraska.

On Oct. 24, 1943, she married Calvin R. Diegel at First United Methodist Church, Nora Springs. The young couple made their home at Phoenix, Ariz., where her husband was employed as a buyer for a wholesale hardware company. In 1945, they returned to their paternal hometown and entered into business with Doris's father. In 1988, she and her husband retired from the grocery business that her father had begun in 1893.

She is survived by her son, Charles, of Nora Springs.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
