Eugene Martin Boge 1920-2001
Eugene M. Boge, age 81, a resident of 2872 130th Street, Charles City, died Monday, November 12, 2001 at Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.
A funeral mass was held on Friday, Nov. 16, 2001 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City. Rev. Stanley J. Hayek officiated. Hauser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Eugene Martin Boge was born Sept. 17, 1920 in Bankston, Iowa the son of Bernard and Gertrude (Gerkin) Boge. He received his education in country schools in North Buena Vista. He served in World War II in the Army in the south Pacific in particular, New Guinea where he was wounded for dead.
On September 2, 1947 he and Eva Huckle were married at Le Mars. They moved to their farm north of Charles City in 1949. During the fifties, he operated a sawmill, operated Boge's Tap and Grill in Colwell in the early 1970's and Boge's Lawn and Leisure in 1980's. During these years, he and Eva spent winters in Brownsville, Texas. "Gene" loved to cook.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Those that preceded him in death were his parents; a son, Barney; seven brothers; and a sister; and a great-grandson.
Those that survive him include his wife, Eva of Charles City; three sons, Kenneth Sr. and Pam Boge of Orchard, Gordon, "George" and Janet Boge of Charles City, and Roger and Teresa Boge of Klemme; three daughters, Linda and Bob Dodd of Klemme; Teresa Boge and Jerry Peters of Floyd, and Norma Boge and Eldon Conyers of Des Moines; and a daughter-in-law, Norma Boge of Sacramento, CA; there are 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
