Bernice 'Bun' Majewski
CHARLES CITY — A Funeral Mass for Bernice "Bun" Majewski, 93, of 44 S. Cedar Terrace, Charles City, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Greene, with Monsignor Walter Brunkan and Monsignor Stanley Hayek officiating. Burial will in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel, in Greene, where there will be a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m.
Bernice Bertha Meek was born Jan. 8, 1904, in Pleasant Grove, Floyd County, a daughter of Charles and May (Willis) Meek and died Monday (Dec. 1, 1997) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home, in Charles City.
She received her education in the Pleasant Grove Schools and attended the Greene High School.
On Nov. 26, 1924, she was united in marriage to James Joseph Majewski at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene.
They started farming near Elma, where they remained for three years before returning to Greene, where they farmed north of town.
In 1959, they retired and moved into Greene. Mr. Majewski died on March 29, 1968. In January of 1978, she moved to Charles City to be near her family.
Bun enjoyed knitting and crocheting and giving what she made to family and friends. She considered herself a mother hen, one who enjoyed baby sitting for her family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards and could play the piano and could not read a note of music.
She was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene and a present member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors.
Living family members include her daughter, Cleo and her husband, Martin Jones, of Charles City; two granddaughters, Malinda and her husband, Doug Welton, of Charles City; Tara Lane, of Nashua; eight great-grandchildren; Jim, Jennifer, Meredith and Nathaniel Welton, Heather, Kasey, Heidi and Kyle Lane.
She was preceded in death by per parents; husband; three sisters, Jesse Franke, Sadie Majewski, Lucy Moser; and one brother, Elmer "Pete" Meek.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Bernice "Bun" Majewski Memorial Fund in care of the family.
